0:00
Alright, good afternoon. This is Joe McKamey, and this video is actually live

0:07
in a Lose to Win 2019 group that we have on Facebook. But I’m also recording

0:15
it for those of you that may or may not have participated in Lose to Win 2019. So

0:22
it’s hard to believe that the year 2019 is over. With Lose to Win, we started the year off awesome with a wonderful

0:29
10-week competition where people had tons of success losing weight, getting healthy, that kind of thing. And then throughout the whole rest of the year we

0:36
held folks accountable who wanted to be held accountable to their goals. And that includes going right now on through the holidays. But if you have never

0:45
participated in Lose to Win before and you choose to do that, you’ll learn more about that in the upcoming years. So let

0:52
me tell you about Lose to Win 2020, because it is almost here and you’re going to want to know about some

1:00
things. Even if you’ve participated before, we’ve got some changes this year — as always, we have some changes. I’ll go over those today too. And actually, one

1:08
of the changes is a pretty major change, so you’ll definitely want to hang out and hear about that. So let me give

1:16
you a quick overview for those of you who have not participated before of what Lose to Win is. Its purpose is to provide

1:24
education, motivation, and accountability to help you reach your healthy lifestyle

1:32
goals. So we’ve been doing this — this is our 17th or 18th session — we’ve been doing it over the past 12 or 13 years to

1:40
hold people accountable to their goals, to help them lose weight. I was actually the first male winner in the program. I was a

1:49
participant and then took it over after that. And so we’ve been doing this for years and years. People keep coming back when they need to, because — let’s face

1:57
it — we fall off the wagon sometimes. I do too. But we always have new people coming in as well. So the proof is in the

2:04
pudding — people keep coming back, people keep recommending it to their friends and family. And I think that shows that we do exactly what our

2:13
purpose is. We educate people, we motivate people, and we hold them accountable to their goals. It’s not about some quick weight loss

2:21
scam or program or anything like that. It’s about general education, motivating you to keep those goals, and

2:30
holding you accountable to them. Because there are tons of different ways that you can lose weight, there are tons of different ways to get healthy, there are

2:37
tons of different strategies. We’ll talk about some of those throughout the course of the Lose to Win competition. So those would be things

2:45
that we talk about and educate you on. But we don’t prescribe one particular way for any particular individual —

2:54
you kind of figure out what works for you, and then we hold you accountable to that. Now we’re going to talk more about this in a minute, but it is a competition —

3:01
at least the first ten weeks. You can win money, and it’s very exciting and very fun. So the goal is to

3:10
make sure you achieve your goals. And notice we use the word “your” in both this slide and the previous slide, because

3:18
this is about you and what you want to accomplish. If you have five pounds to lose, if you have 50 pounds to lose, if you have 150 pounds to

3:26
lose — this can work for you, because it’s about us holding you accountable to your goals. So this is about you saying, “This is what I want to accomplish,” and

3:34
our hope, our goal, is to make sure that we hold you accountable to your goal and

3:42
set you up for success in 2020 and beyond. Alright, so what does the competition look like? Here’s a quick

3:50
overview. It’s an individual competition, so there’s an individual portion and a team portion. The individual portion is a

3:57
competition based on percentage of weight lost and gender. We found that percentage of weight loss is a lot more

4:05
fair for people who maybe don’t have quite as much to lose, or maybe people who have a lot to lose. Because people

4:13
who have a lot to lose will lose more pounds over the course of 10 weeks and will lose more pounds more easily than

4:21
somebody who doesn’t have as many pounds to lose. But if we go by percentage, it’s a much more fair way to approach

4:30
the competition. Also, we have a male winner and a female winner, because — let’s face it, ladies — biologically it is more

4:40
difficult for you to lose weight. I hate that that’s the case — you already know it, it’s already true. So we split up

4:47
the men and the women in terms of the top prizes for the individual weight loss portion. Now here’s

4:54
one of the things that truly makes Lose to Win very different. It’s not — like we talked about before — something where we’re going to say, “Hey,

5:02
you’ve got to do keto, you’ve got to do Weight Watchers, you’ve got to do calorie counting, you’ve got to do intermittent fasting.” We’re not going to say you have to do those things.

5:10
We’re going to help you find the things that work for you. But here’s the other thing that makes it really unique — it’s a

5:18
team-based competition. Now, the team competition is not necessarily based on weight loss. So you may say, “Well, I’ve only got 10 or 15 pounds to lose — I’m

5:27
really going to hurt a team because I’m not going to lose as much weight as everybody else.” Well, that’s not true. The team competition is based on points.

5:34
How do you earn points? You earn points by doing healthy lifestyle activities. Such as — you get points for

5:42
showing up to meetings. That means that you’re actually dedicating and investing time in learning, educating yourself, and being motivated towards a

5:50
healthy lifestyle. Being present in a group of people who are on the same journey as you is a healthy lifestyle

5:59
habit, and so we’re going to reward you for doing that by giving you points. Keeping a food journal — writing down every single thing you eat, no matter

6:08
what kind of philosophy or strategy you’re following — if you write it down you’re going to be more successful. That’s a healthy habit that we will reward you for.

6:17
Coming to weigh-ins — that is a part of being accountable. Being accountable is a healthy habit that we will reward you for.

6:25
Drinking water — a lot of us struggle with drinking water, so drinking

6:31
water is a healthy habit that we reward you for. Coming to FitClub — exercising with a group of people is a healthy

6:39
habit that we will reward you for. You don’t have to do any of these things, but these are the things that we will reward you

6:47
for and give you points for. Daily exercise — it’s a healthy habit that we will

6:54
reward you for. Challenges — these are self-imposed. You’ll figure out things like, “I really struggle with getting enough sleep,” because we know rest

7:02
leads directly to weight loss. So maybe you’ll put a challenge on yourself to make sure you get eight

7:11
hours of sleep at night. Or maybe you’ll put a challenge on yourself that says, “I’m not going to drink any calorie-filled drinks,” or “I’m not going to eat fast food.” So you’ll have these challenges, and

7:20
when you succeed at your challenges, that’s a healthy habit that we reward you for. The Connecting Coffee County Relay —

7:29
the goal is for it to be on March 21st. We’re working out the details — that’s not a guaranteed, set-in-stone thing yet. But it’s very likely that that’s going to

7:37
happen that day. And signing up — it’s actually after the competition is over. By signing up and registering for that and committing to be a part of it is

7:45
something that we will reward you for. Setting a goal to accomplish in the future and having

7:53
something that you are motivated to do is a healthy habit that we’re going to reward you for. And all kinds of other things — these are the main things though, so etc. —

8:02
sometimes we’ll have homework and things like that, that’s why we put the “etc.” in there. Now, how many people can be on a team? That’s always a question we get —

8:10
it’s 10 people maximum per team and 5 minimum. You can come with a team,

8:17
you can bring your team with you and say, “This is our team, this is who we’re going to be,” and that’s awesome because that’s going to set you up for great

8:25
success. You may not know anybody that’s going to participate, so if that’s the case, we’ll put you on a team.

8:32
Now we can’t promise how that team’s going to gel or form, but we can promise that we’ll put you on a team. Or

8:40
if you just have one or two people and don’t have a full team, make sure to note that on your entry form as well.

8:48
The initial weigh-ins — just a few more details. Our January 5th or 6th bio weigh-ins, and more weigh-ins on the 16th. This is something that’s

8:56
different — our meetings are every other week this session. On the weeks we don’t have a meeting, we’ll have a single FitClub. For those of you who have not

9:04
participated in the past, we’ll explain that at the overview meeting on

9:10
January 2nd. But basically, we’ll have something for you every

9:17
Tuesday night during the course of Lose to Win. And weigh-ins —

9:25
we’ll also have weigh-ins every single Tuesday. So the meetings with content are every other week,

9:33
but we do have something for you every week. Alright, so the weeks that we have a meeting, FitClub will be

9:41
at 5 and 7. So you can come to FitClub before or after the meeting. On weeks that we don’t have a meeting, FitClub

9:50
will be at 6 o’clock and it will be our only activity of the night — except for weigh-ins, obviously. So if all of that is

9:58
confusing to you, don’t worry about it — we’ll walk you through it. Just know this — we’re going to hold you accountable to your goals, we’re going to help you reach your

10:04
goals in 2020. Regular weigh-ins are Tuesdays from 4 to 6, and until 15 minutes after FitClub.

10:13
So that’s what we’re going to do. Weigh-ins — sometimes they’ll be at the conference center, sometimes they’ll be here at Marcrom’s Pharmacy. So

10:21
that’s the way that’s going to work. Again, if you look on our website, there’s a sheet of dates that tells

10:29
you exactly when everything is. So it’s all going to be there, and we’re going to communicate it thoroughly too. So to go over a few of the changes with you

10:37
for this session — to highlight them — first of all, no minimum meeting requirement. So in the past we said you have to attend

10:44
this many meetings in order to get prizes, to be on a team, that kind of thing. There’s no minimum meeting requirement now. You’re going to want to

10:53
come because it’s good info, you’re going to want to come because it’s motivational, you’re going to want to come because you get a ton of points for showing up to

11:00
meetings. But there are no requirements for meetings. Meetings this session — the content meetings — are every other

11:09
week this session. So don’t feel like you have to — don’t feel like you’re committing your life away. I know we all get this — since we started this 13 or 14 years

11:17
ago, life has just gotten busier and busier. And so we want to recognize that and give you the

11:24
opportunity not to feel like you’re skipping out on your teammates if you’re not able to come sometimes. So we want to

11:32
give some flexibility there. Alright — new people on your team. If you’ve been participating in the past and

11:40
you have at least two new people on your team, we’re going to increase the prize money if your team happens to win. Alright, this is something we changed last

11:48
year — but just to make sure you know — we’re going to give credit for every ounce of water you drink, up to 64 ounces. Used to, you only got credit if you drank 64.

11:57
But I know what happens — sometimes you get 30 ounces in, or 40 ounces in, or 50 ounces in, and it’s 11:30 at night and you’re trying to go to sleep and you’re

12:05
like, “I’ve got to go drink 16 more ounces of water or 30 more ounces of water,” and then you’re up all night. So anyway, we want to give you credit for

12:13
what you accomplished, for what you do. Alright, so that’s there. We’ll give you up to 30 minutes a day

12:20
worth of points towards exercise. So 30 minutes per day counts towards your exercise. You can do more than that, and

12:29
you don’t have to do nearly that in order to maximize your points. So don’t feel like you have to exercise 30

12:36
minutes a day if you join. But you can get credit for up to 30 minutes per day. If you exercise 20 to 25 minutes per day,

12:43
four to five days a week, you’ll get plenty of points for the competition for your team. So you’ll be fine there.

12:50
Alright, you do get bonus points for reaching a minimum percentage of weight loss, which is six percent. Or if you

12:57
achieve a BMI of 27 or lower. If you don’t know what BMI is, that’s okay. Basically what that’s saying is maybe

13:05
you don’t have as much weight to lose as other folks, and so you might not be able to lose six percent of your body weight

13:12
in 10 weeks. But if you have a BMI of 27 or below, then you’re also going to get those points. So

13:19
that’s the way that works. Alright, finally — let’s wrap up this video. The cost for Lose to

13:27
Win this session is $99. That’s actually a $30 reduction from the past couple of years. And the reason we were able to

13:34
do that is because of the fact that we’re meeting every other week, so we don’t have the cost of the conference center. We’ve always wanted to make this

13:42
as affordable as possible while it’s still reasonable for us to put this on as a business. And so our costs went down this

13:52
year, so your cost is going to go down this year. So the cost of the session is $99. And the other thing is we’re

14:01
running a super early bird special from now until Friday, December 20th. Make sure I got that date right —

14:09
tomorrow’s December 17th, sorry — from now until Friday, December 20th, we’re running a super early bird special. So be watching —

14:17
that super early bird code is — sorry — that super early bird

14:23
code is 2020 — the numbers 2-0-2-0 — Super EB. So that’s the super

14:33
early bird code. If you happen to watch this after December 20th, the early bird code, which will run until

14:41
December 27th, is 2020 — that’s the numbers 2-0-2-0 —

14:49
EB. So 2020SuperEB and 2020EB

14:56
are the specials. The super early bird is going to get you $20 off, the early bird is going to get you $10 off. So you can

15:03
participate in Lose to Win for $79. If you are a previous participant, be watching your email for a special code

15:11
for you, because you get just a touch more on that discount on the super early bird and early bird specials. Alright, I hope you join us. Again, this is

15:20
all about helping you reach your goals, helping you become the best version of yourself possible, helping you be the

15:28
healthiest version of yourself possible. I know you have goals, I know you have things that you want to accomplish, things that you want to do. And I know sometimes our health gets in the way of

15:36
that. And so our hope, our goal, our desire is to help you reach those goals. We’ve done it with so many people in the past, and I believe that we can do it for you

15:45
as well. So with that — hope you guys have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for joining me today. Thanks for

15:52
taking 15 or 16 minutes out of your life to learn about Lose to Win. I hope to see you in January 2020. Alright, we’ll talk

16:00
soon. Thanks.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

Lose to Win has by far changed mine and my family’s lives.  I don’t think  we would have ever lost this much weight without the competition, support, or the accountability!  Rhonda T.

Lose to Win helps me stay focused. I learn something new every time I participate. All my team mates support we no matter if I lose or gain. Joe has taught us this is a journey and he is always there for us.  -Regina K.

I love the accountability aspect of this program. It is a wonderful community full of inspiring people.  -Will P.

The accountability that lose to win provides is absolutely tremendous!   This program has provided me and my family and opportunity to create a healthy and physically active lifestyle that we likely would not have created otherwise.  -Dan M.

Slide1-300x225 [JPG, 26.37 KB]Joe’s Story I had never struggled with my weight until I graduated from college and “settled down.” Once I settled down, the weight began to settle in.

I graduated high school at around 175 lbs and by 2005, just ten short years later I had gained over 100 pounds. I happened upon a planning committee for my ten year high school reunion – people I had lost touch with but was close to in high school. It may have been the most embarrassing moment in my life when they didn’t recognize me. I knew something had to change. So, I made all the excuses like everyone else as to why losing weight wasn’t working for me:

  • I just wasn’t around the right people
  • I have a broad build (big boned-lol)
  • My body just likes this weight better
  • I like food too much
  • It’s easier for other people
  • I must have a slow metabolism
  • The list can go on and on…I used them all!

While I tried to lose weight, I wasn’t very successful for about 18 months.

Around this time we had a pharmacy resident that needed to do a community outreach project. I was not yet a fan of the Biggest Loser tv show but it was becoming popular so I suggested she do a weight loss competition.

We worked on putting it together over the next few weeks and Lose to Win was born. I must admit, I had ulterior motives when I suggested she do this as her project.

I knew competition was a motivator for me, so I knew this would give me the kick start I needed. I actually won the first competition – BUT I gained most of it back – glowing recommendation, right?

We decided to do the program again the next year and this time I decided to really change my life. I had a little scare with the cardiologist around this time and knew that the sooner I could get this weight off the better.

However, I didn’t do crazy diets or anything like that – to this day I eat whatever I want, just not whenever I want.

I don’t believe in cutting everything out if it is something you enjoy. I do believe you have to limit the things that are bad for you. The weight loss journey is a “do-able” thing for anyone.

It is just like anything else in life. If you are going to be successful you have to do the little things day after day.

Sure, just like anything else, you fall off the wagon every now and then but it doesn’t mean that you have failed, it just means you are normal.

Each person has to find what works for them. I was convicted because of faith and family, was educated through this program, was motivated by competition, and am held accountable by my Lose to Win family!

Everyone needs conviction (a why), education, motivation, and accountability! So, if I can do it – you can too! I will be here to help you along the way!
